Here's my pick of the best Legos for girls of all ages to enjoy this Christmas. As soon as children are able to sit unaided, they can learn to stack up some large blocks and then laugh as they watch as they topple over.
There are now a huge range of colors, themes and possibilities with Lego bricks which can make choosing which to buy quite difficult. I've broken sets down into age ranges to make choosing Legos for girls much easier.
I had Lego bricks when I was a young girl, so it was natural that I'd want my daughter to also enjoy these terrific toys that help to inspire little imaginations.

Pick of the Best Legos for Girls With Sets Placed In Handy Age Order
You will find a lot of choice when buying Lego sets for a girl. In this guide to what I've picked out as my favorites, I've selected some of my best choices for different age groups from toddlers up to much older kids.
Newer Legos for girls include the Lego Elves fantasy range. This guide should help you to narrow down exactly what you're looking to get whether it's a gift for this Christmas, a birthday or a just because reason.
Preschool and Toddler Girl Legos Age 2-5: Look for the Duplo Range
UK Readers get a Duplo Princess Set from Amazon.co.uk
If you haven't bought a construction brick set for quite some time, you may not know that Lego do a special range of bricks aimed specifically at preschool children.
These work in exactly the same way but they are larger, chunky blocks that young kids and especially toddlers should find much easier to grasp, hold and manipulate with their hands.
Most of the Duplo sets are aged at 2-5 years. I would definitely recommend these over the smaller construction bricks for preschool girls.
That is partly due to safety reasons but also to save unnecessary frustrations because these larger, chunky parts are easier for little hands to grasp and play with.
My own daughter only started playing with the smaller Lego bricks at age 4 and, even then, she wasn't too keen on the size difference to start with. From 5 onwards it was the smaller pieces all the way and we then packed the Duplo away.
Best Legos for Girls Age 4 and Upwards: Look for Lego Juniors
UK Readers get a Lego Juniors set from Amazon.co.uk
Depending on the fine motor skills or hand-eye co-ordination skills of the child in question, around about age four is the time to think about replacing the big chunky Duplo or other sets with the regular sized Lego which is a lot smaller.
This transition has been thought of with the Juniors range which have sets that are designed to be easier for kids to build.
To start with, smaller themed play boxes are a good option. And with some adult help too of course. I love how this company have thought about all these points with their Juniors range which doesn't involve any overly complicated construction.
Some kids will get frustrated if too much is expected of them and they'll give up because they're not ready to tackle anything large or overly complicated for them to build.
When you're starting a young girl off on the smaller bricks, it's a good idea to buy a range of smaller kits and themed boxes rather than one great big one which is going to be pretty overwhelming.
Once a girl becomes more confident with grasping, stacking and pressing pieces together, you might want to consider buying a bigger box which has lots of parts in.
She may start off by making simple pieces such as walls, towers and bridges. We bought a big brick box of pink Legos for girls because my daughter happened to adore cute pastel and candy colors so it made a lot of sense.
Box Sets for Ages 5 and Up: Try Her with Lego Friends
UK Readers get a Lego Friends Set from Amazon.co.uk
From age 5 and over, there is a special sub-division of brick sets which are called Lego Friends. The Friends range is aimed specifically at girls.
Some people do not like such a strong gender association but since my daughter has always loved what has been associated with a tradition of being girly, this range is absolutely ideal for her. Try Amazon and any good toy store for where to buy Lego friends.
This dog show set is clearly tapping in to young ones who adore their pets or animals and although it has less than 200 pieces, there are a lot of cute looking accessories. I think it has a lot of play value for kids who particularly enjoy little play figures and the female minifigures who are called minidolls.
The age range on this set is 5-12. It has lots of little parts which I know my daughter loves. We store the tiniest bits in a tin so that we don't lose them.
This set comes with two puppies, a girl figure, trophy, rosettes, grooming accessories, obstacles for the dogs to interact with and scenery. It should be a winner for girls who love dogs and pets.
Emma's sports car set makes a great looking little set which you could get as a stocking stuffer or buy it to gift in conjunction with a bigger set. It is a larger set than many people realize because you also get a picnic table, some street signs and other play accessories as well as the car.
The figures can stop off and have something to eat as well on their journey. So although it is one of the smaller box sets, there's a good bit of play value I believe.
Lots of girls do like cars and enjoy playing with them. My own daughter has always liked toys that move and she enjoys her construction brick cars as well as her pink barbie one.
And this sports one comes in pretty shades of pink and purple with a hint of blue. I can see this appealing most definitely to girls age 8 and under. There are lots of other options for you to enjoy on this page.

Large House Set for Girls Aged 6 and Over
UK Readers get a Lego Friends House from Amazon.co.uk
As girls get older, they should be able to cope more easily with larger brick designs. Some will be able to work out the building instructions on their own but most will still need plenty of help at the age of six.
Having a larger set like this pretty looking house is much more of a project to make and also to enjoy playing with for a long time after.
The house comes with four interior rooms plus a roof patio and a nice looking garden. It includes a sweet white cat plus three minifigures or minidolls and a ton of accessories. The whole dollhouse has been really well thought out I think.
Each room (bathroom, bedroom, kitchen, lounge) has items to furnish it with that can be constructed. I like the swing in the garden, the BBQ area, lawnmower and even a sweet red mailbox. So much thought has gone into making this a toy that should really appeal to young kids.
UK Readers get Belle's Castle from Amazon.co.uk
With the new Beauty and the Beast movie starring Emma Watson, what could be better than having her enchanted castle to build. This beautiful looking set is recommended for ages 6-12.
It comes with a 2-story castle along with Belle and the Beast minifigures and plenty of play accessories to match. It looks like it is straight out of a fairytale.

Larger Sets for Girls Age 7 and Older
For girls who are into horses and ponies, this could just be the ultimate play set. And it is what I call a large set with well over 1000 brick pieces.
This is one of the bigger Friends play sets that you can get and you may need plenty of space to make it up. Allow plenty of time to make and construct this too. You could be looking at a minimum of 3 hours based on my own experience of building up these sets.
Luckily the design of this pony and horse playset has been cleverly broken down into individual parts which means that it should be easier to store it and for kids to move it around. They can choose to play with just one or two areas or the whole thing.
There are 3 horses included as well as 4 different girl figures also known as minidolls. I really love the little mini-bus and trailer which will be fun to drive through the big entrance gates. It's a set that should have massive appeal for horse mad girls.

A More Grown-Up Creator Kit for Ages 8 +
UK Readers get a Lego Creator Set from Amazon.co.uk
When girls get to 8 years and over, they might gradually start to move away from wanting the really cute candy colored friends range and want a more grown-up line of Lego.
They can get this with the special Creator line which is normally aimed at the the 8-12 year age group although there are designs aimed at even older kids and adults too.
The family house comes with instructions to make three different types of home with the set which gives an older child much more of a challenge and can keep them busy building for many hours.

Like so many children before her, my daughter has really enjoyed playing with construction and building bricks from a young age. These tough plastic bricks no longer just come made in solid primary colors and plain sets. They are designed for all ages to enjoy.
